Trying to shop for plans for family mobile phones, it must have become clear that they have been more and more expensive year after year. For example, Sprint has made an announcement to holder's plans for family mobile phones that extra members would not get the employee discount they have expected in the past.
That would mean the bill is getting costlier as more and more people begin to step up their phone game. Verizon and AT&T have made the same announcements or at least fairly similar ones. Carriers made the recent changes more complex than what they are already. This can cause a bit of confusion, and some people might not even know for sure why they are charged a certain amount.
All companies have tried plans for add-ons to family mobile to make them more and more expensive every year. Every extra line costs $5 to $10 it seems like these days. Music, messaging, Facebook, movies etc., all are available on the phone now. Carriers are now making more and more money by selling all these extra, profitable services to consumers. Traditionally, the family mobile phone was not a profitable business the way it was in the past.
However, family plans allow you to combine the talk time; and that is good. Your minutes that you spend talking to someone else on the plan are in essence "free" since you can use as many as you want and your minutes will not be used up.
While giving your children smart phones having voice capability, you should know that these phones can store a good amount of data and it will cost you more. T mobile for example charges $40 for family plan phone with data storing facility.
Some companies give the data storing as extras and so also text for buying individuals in family plan. Everyone can get a different plan also.
To come to decision regarding what is to be done it is necessary study the pattern of usage of the family. If it happens that data storing is of not much use in the family, individual lines will be good with extras for additional facility. Sprint charges $5 extra for text messages of 300 words.
There is a general feeling that unlimited plans are the safest way to go. This may not be workable in all cases. Family plans have this facility of unlimited talk time for use between family members.
